Dawson grew up playing in the UK, spending most of his youth career in the youth academies of Welsh Premier League clubs The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads, as well as spending time with EFL League Two club Crewe Alexandra.
In 2019, Dawson moved to the US to study Exercise Science whilst playing collegiate soccer, first at Life University and then at Midland University, where he was named both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as earning a place in the GPAC all-conference team.
As a coach, Dawson has worked most recently at the high school level, as part of the staff at Fremont High School in Nebraska, as well as coordinating and running a number of camps and initiatives in the local community.

- USSF E License
- PFSA Level 1 and 2 Performance Analysis in Football (Soccer)
- English FA Talent Identification Level 1
- Welsh FA Coaching Football Level 1
- Sport for Wales Sports Leadership Certification
- B.S. Exercise Science
