LFCIA Program Manager from England, Steven Gillespie, came to visit our Michigan site at the end of October as part of an annual trip to all the affiliate clubs around the US.
These annual visits are an important part of the club’s relationship with LFC England and are an opportunity to see first-hand how we are upholding LFC’s standards and implementing the Academy curriculum.
“Liverpool takes pride in delivering an authentic coaching experience around the world,” said Andy Wagstaff, Club President, “and we enjoyed showing Steven our passion for the kids and the club’s philosophy. Having someone with his professional experience and Academy access here is really a great privilege.”
Steven is an LFC Academy graduate and holds a UEFA A License. He had a 12-year professional career playing for Liverpool, Fleetwood Town, Bristol Rovers and Bristol City, to name a few. His position with LFCIA allows him access to current first-team talent like Virgil Van Dyke (see video here), as well as opportunities to coach LFC legends, such as Steven Gerard and Fernando Torres, who will play at Anfield in March 2020 at the LFC Legends v FC Barcelona Legends game.
During his visit, Steven spent time with club leadership and all of our site directors. He specifically visited Ann Arbor, North Oakland/Clarkston and Central sites to tour various training facilities, meet players, observe the curriculum in action during training sessions and talk with staff about new curriculum material from the Academy.
“We made a good impression of our organization, professionalism and delivery of the curriculum,” said Ann Arbor Site Director Lee Hudson, “and to have him see our players come off the field with smiles on their faces, well, that said it all.”
